The first thing to do before moving is to sort out and declutter. Because everything you don’t have to move into your new four walls saves time and money. Whether it’s a complete household clearance or just the disposal of bulky waste: professional disposal is the be-all and end-all of a house clearance. You can find out the best way to do this and how to get professional help here!

  1. Clearing out before the move: what’s the best way to proceed?
  2. How can I hire a clear-out company?
  3. What services does a clearing company offer?
  4. How much will a clearing company cost me?

1. clearing out before the move: what’s the best way to proceed?

When sorting, it is best to ask yourself the following questions:

  • Is the item out of date, do I like it or does it no longer fit me (e.g. clothes that are too tight)?
  • Is the item no longer needed (e.g. old baby carriage)?
  • Is the item defective/unusable (e.g. broken clothes horse)?

If you have answered “yes ” to at least one of the questions, you should part with the respective item.

Once you have identified all the possessions that need to be cleared out, you need to decide which ones you can dispose of yourself (or give away, sell, etc.) and which ones are better removed by a professional (e.g. bulky items such as a heavy sofa or solid wood cupboard).

2. how can I hire a clearing company?

If you need a removal company with the relocation, it is worth asking whether they also offer a clear-out service for an additional charge. This way you kill two birds with one stone.

If you are organizing your move yourself or your removal company does not offer a clearing out service, you will probably start by doing some research online. We recommend that you look specifically for companies that are basednear you, because if you don’t have to travel far, you can usually expect a cheaper quote.

Tip: About Relock when booking a removal company, you have the option of a clearing out to be commissioned. 3. what services does a clearing company offer?

A professional clear-out is included:

  • Viewing
  • Eviction
  • Transportation
  • Waste disposal
  • possibly Resale the still usable objects and furniture (e.g. antiques).

The specialist dismantles individual pieces of furniture as well as fixtures/wall installations. All items and furniture that are to be disposed of are then separated by material and cleared out or recycled accordingly.

Old electrical appliances such as televisions, washing machines, refrigerators or computers are also taken away by the clearing out company; these count as hazardous waste and must be disposed of separately.

Tip: Do you need a final clean with guaranteed removal in addition to a clear-out? In cooperation with our partner MoveAgain, we offer professional removal cleaning in addition to the transportation of your household goods. Your home will not only be swept clean down to the screed, but left spotlessly clean. This will please your landlord and greatly increase your chances of getting your rental deposit back in full!

4. what does a professional clear-out cost me?

Some clearing companies want to inspect the household contents to be disposed of in advance so that they can provide a realistic cost estimate. Understandably so, as clearing out companies often come across messy apartments, especially when clearing out apartments, which can take several days to clear.

If your move is a complete house clearance or you have a lot of bulky items to dispose of, you should ask the clearing company for a free inspection. Make sure you get several quotes so that you can better assess the price/performance ratio.

If you only have individual items (such as an old piano) to clear out, a photo and size/weight of the item may suffice.

To give you a rough idea of the costs involved in advance, we have put together the following overview to show you approximately how many Swiss francs you need to budget per cubic meter of bulky waste :

VolumePrice
1 cubic meterapprox. 200 CHF
3 cubic metersapprox. 400 CHF
6 cubic metersapprox. 700 CHF
10 cubic metersapprox. 1100 CHF

For hazardous waste (e.g. electronic devices) you have to calculate between CHF 3.50 and CHF 4.50 per kilogram.
